FAQs

Products

  • We recommend that once a cake is sliced, any sponge is covered and the cake is stored in a tin or an air tight container to prevent it from drying out. If stored in the fridge the cake will become drier in the middle and the icing will start to sweat.

  • All products have an individual shelf life so please check the labels for each product. Generally, our sponge cakes last around 20 days, fruitcakes last for 3 months and biscuits last for 6 months.

  • We use a variety of different nuts within our cakes and biscuits. Please check individual product details for information. Although we do not have peanuts on site, due to supplier methods we do advise that all products may contain traces of peanuts and other allergens.

Ingredients

  • The majority of our cakes and biscuits are suitable for vegetarians; please check the individual product. Or if you have already received the item, please look at the ingredients label where it will tell you.

  • In short, no.

  • The majority of our fruitcakes do contain alcohol; please see individual ingredients labels to double check.

Orders

  • We do on occasion produce larger wedding and celebration requests. Please refer to the next FAQ for more info.

  • We do produce a selection of bespoke celebration cakes and Wedding cakes. Celebration cakes start at £150 plus carriage and wedding cakes start at £750 plus carriage. Carriage can be quite costly if you are not local to us in Leicestershire so this may be something to consider. You are welcome to collect bespoke or wedding cakes orders direct from us.

If you would like to discuss our bespoke service further with the team, please send your event date, delivery location, design and flavour ideas along with how many you are looking to cater for to contactme@fionacairns.com and a member of the team will respond as soon as possible.

Please note that we specialise in floral designs and do not cater for many themed designs.

  • We do not have a shop onsite. We are a large-scale baking operation and our site is filled with numerous bakeries and administration offices only.

  • We follow a strict process in agreement with Waitrose and so your order must be collected from your local branch or booked for a delivery.

  • All Waitrose entertaining orders are produced to specific technical specifications and therefore changes, no matter how slight they seem, cannot be made.

  • Sadly no, this will be down to space of the cake board and the type of product.

  • Due to Waitrose processing, distribution centres and transport, we are unable to make and deliver a cake to your local Waitrose in less than 8 days.

  • You can place an order via Waitrose Entertaining online as far in advance as you please given the websites capability. We simply require 8 days minimum notice to turn the product around in time for delivery on your chosen date to your chosen branch.

  • Please see our Find Us page.

Feedback

  • Our bakers work really hard all year round, so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

You can leave us a google review online or send us an email at contactme@fionacairns.com and your comments will be distributed throughout the team and even to Fiona Cairns herself.

  • We urge you to follow up your complaint with the supplier you purchased your product from. They will in turn contact us for any relevant information they may need to proceed to prevent the complaint being handled twice.
