Our Story

From a simple everyday cake to more elaborate creations baking has always been at the heart of what we do. Bringing joy for almost 40 years.

1985-1986

From the first fruit cake to a business being born! 

Kishore and Fiona go skiing with friends to Wengen and take 8 mini fruit cakes as Christmas gifts, made at home and baked in baked bean cans.

1988-1989

Cracking London!

We start regular deliveries to The Conran Shop, Harrods and The Ritz all from the kitchen table. Kishore converts the outhouse into a bakery with 4 Neff ovens, ready for Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges and Next. 

1993

Waitrose Partnership

This very special partnership begins, in a small way – we start supplying 6 celebration cakes to Waitrose. The partnership grows tremendously over the years. 

1999

We move to Fleckney! 

Our first warehouse in Fleckney, Leicestershire is converted into a bakery and Kishore joins Fiona Cairns full time.

2005

The Fiona Cairns Fairy Cake

The Fairy Cake is born and to this day remains unchanged and one of our most popular products.

2010

Fiona’s First Book

Bake & Decorate is published, with The Birthday Cake book following in 2011 and Seasonal Baking in 2013.

2011

The Royal Wedding Cake

We were privileged to be asked to create the Royal Wedding cake for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It was the ultimate project for us as designers and cake makers. Following tradition, our cakes have been enjoyed at Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ Christenings.

2013

Prize winners!

The Fiona Cairns NPD team win the Waitrose Product Innovation Award for creating the most fantastic ice cream cupcakes.

2016

Queen’s 90th Birthday

We collaborated with Harrrods, creating the most wonderful afternoon tea to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday. Royal themed cakes and biscuits were designed and dispatched to London.

2019

Another Royal Wedding

In May, we felt honoured to be asked to create a Royal Wedding cake for Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston. A wonderful occasion!

2021

We open to independent and wholesale customers

We start to sell directly to independent shops, cafes and farm shops across the UK, and even reaching as far as Bermuda!

2022

A new generation

Tara joins the family business and solar panels installed on one of our bakeries marking the start of our sustainability journey.

2023

New products

We make another cake fit for the King to celebrate 40 years of The Princes Fund and launch a new range of Fiona Cairns branded products – loaf cakes, individual cupcakes, gift cakes.

2024

We launch on Ocado

Our products become available on the nation’s doorsteps.
